Next User Training / Nächste Schulung

Update: 25.10.2023:

Dear customers,

After nearly a decade of user trainings, we have temporarily paused our public user training sessions. However, the influx of inquiries we continue to receive through our regular emails clearly indicates a significant ongoing interest. We encourage those still eager to participate not to hesitate in adding their names to our waiting list via email.

Please be aware, however, that our response times may be extended. The unforeseen circumstances brought about by the coronavirus pandemic led us to initiate new projects to fill the gap, which have since expanded significantly in both scope and time commitment. While our public offerings are on hold, we continue to offer specialized in-house courses. If you are interested in these tailored sessions, please reach out to us by email. Do anticipate some delay in our response, as we diligently work through our current commitments. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to engaging with you in the future.

All the best,
Uwe Merkel

Update: CORONA / COVID:

The CORONA / COVID-19 pandemic forced us to cancel all courses since Spring 2020.

The public, and the in-house training. Travel and meeting restrictions in Germany and almost any of our customers home countries made it impossible.

But I’m using the time to

  • update examples, documentation and software.
  • collect your thematic wishes.
  • collect your date suggestions for in-house or public training after the crises.

Additionally: I’m rethinking my attitude about online courses. Many people will be forced to stay at their home office by the virus now, like us. So I’m willing to give it a try, after refusing for a long time to give full E-learning training sessions via Skype, Teamviewer or Hangouts. My concerns were:

  • It is very laborious and expensive to convert all examples to run over the internet.
  • As the participants usually have different educational backgrounds and job experiences, a frontal teaching as at universities is close to impossible. It is easier to see if everybody understood the lecture if you can look in everyone’s eyes.

If you are willing to be an early adopter, a beta tester for the E-learning courses, please contact me.

Update: 5.02.2020:

Dear Telemac users, customers, colleagues and friends,
we organized 23 public courses in the last 8 years, plus a rising number of in-house courses. And we still love it!

And we keep examples and exercises fresh: New for 2020 is a chapter on temperature and tracer mixing in lakes, even with long term stable temperature stratigraphies, the so far most difficult task we solved with Telemac-3D.

  • Free Surface Flow Modelling with Open Source Software, our best seller is an introduction course for those who expect the fastest possible learning curve. Pre- & Postprocessing, calculation setup, parallel computing and source code adaptations are the topics for 4 days.
  • Sisyphe in DepthThe Sediment Transport Course with Dr. Catherine Villaret.
  • The Advanced User Training is currently not available, as Jean-Michel Hervouet meanwhile enjoys his retirement. We will setup a new course in future. Please feel free to ask for news.

All the best,

Uwe Merkel

Update: 15.08.2018 / 23.09.2019:

Dear Telemac users, customers, colleagues and friends,

Schulungen_www.uwe-merkel.com_2015

We proceed in the 6 th year of user trainings for open source software which helps us to simulate free surface flow! Every year more and more customers keep us busy with inhouse trainings for their own work group, but we offer few public courses again as well.

For those who plan to start at an entry level, the new editions of Course I (German) and IV (English) will be the right decision. New program versions bring new functions, and new users ask new questions. So I decided to configure a new version of the Telemac Life Cluster and to update the training examples.
As the years before, there will be public trainings  in German or English. They can also be held as in‐house training for those who miss the date or like an even more private and project based consulting. Don’t hesitate to contact us to receive the final program updates and for further information.

New Public Course Dates for 2018 / 2019:

Free Surface Flow Modelling with Open Source Software is an introduction course for those who expect the fastest possible learning curve. Pre- & Postprocessing, calculation setup, parallel computing and source code adaptations are the topics for 4 days.
